The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program lets you experience the thrill of diving under the supervision of a PADI Professional in pool or pool-like conditions. During your adventure, you’ll master some basic concepts and scuba skills and might even head off to experience an open water adventure.

At The Cortez Club® we train divers for PADI diving courses using the PADI system (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), the world’s largest diver training organisation. Your PADI qualification will be recognised worldwide… more than any other diving qualification.
The Cortez Club® is a PADI 5 Star Gold Palm Instructor Development Centre; we train people on PADI courses from beginner right up to professional diving instructor.
As a beginner you will train to become a PADI OPEN WATER DIVER. This qualification will enable you to dive around the world with a buddy (friend/partner) of the same or higher standard, to a maximum recommended depth of 18 metres/60 feet.
The Cortez Club® has no minimum number for classes, so you can sign up any time. This guarantees individual attention and most importantly, maximum safety. Our course will teach you all the essential skills needed to SCUBA dive, to become familiar with the equipment and understand what happens to your body underwater. This course has great emphasis on safety, not only for yourself but also your diving buddy.
PADI Open Water Course Is:
Divided into three parts which are all very flexible to suit all lifestyles.
Confined Water Diving:
This is where the real fun starts – where you actually GO DIVING! This part of the course is conducted at our swimming pool or in the sea, off our dock. Here, under the guidance and supervision of an Instructor, you will learn and practice dive skills and procedures. This part of the course involves 5 dives and takes a minimum of one day or as long as you need!
Knowledge Development:
Once you have decided to start the course we give you a manual and video to watch and study in your own time and at your own pace, this establishes the principles and basic information all divers need to know to enjoy comfortable, safe diving. This can be completed in a minimum time of one day.
Open Water Dives:
The final part of the course involves four dives in the ocean. Again, under the supervision of an Instructor, you will complete the course by applying, adapting and further developing your knowledge and dive skills in the real diving environment. This part is also very flexible and is usually conducted over two days.

The Adventures in Diving program offers both the Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications. If you complete any three adventure dives, you can earn your PADI Adventure Diver certification. If you complete your Deep Adventure Dive, Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive and three Adventure Dives for a total of five, you can earn your Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

The PADI Rescue Diver will expand your knowledge and experience beyond purely recreational level because you’ll learn to look beyond yourself and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is serious, it is an enjoyable way to build your confidence.
What do I need to start?
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
Minimum age: 15 years old (12 for PADI Junior Rescue Diver)
Successful completion of a sanctioned CPR program within the past 24 months.
What will I do?
Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. During the five open water sessions, you’ll cover:

Emergency First Response gives you the tools you need to perform CPR and First Aid. Whether you’re a diver or a non-diver, Emergency First Response prepares you to properly handle potentially life-threatening situations.

- Complete water skills and stamina exercises in confined and open water.

What will I do?
- This comprehensive program is composed of two core modules that can be taught in tandem or as stand-alone courses: Emergency First Response – Primary Care and Emergency First Response – Secondary Care. Together, these courses proved extensive instruction in CPR and First Aid, as well as providing optional (yet recommended) Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Emergency Oxygen sections.

This certification denotes that you’ve reached the highest recreational diver level in the PADI System of diver education. PADI Master Scuba Diver indicates you have a significant amount of training and experience in a variety of dive environments.

The AI course runs over 4 days (the first 4 days of an IDC) and includes academic, confined water and open water teaching sessions.
This course takes you through the basics of becoming a dive educator. Qualifying as an AI allows you to progress on to the OWSI program and allows you to teach programs like the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty, Project Aware and also conduct certain portions of the Open Water Diver Course.
The prerequisites for this course are:
- PADI Divemaster or equivalent.
- A minimum 60 logged dives with night, deep and navigation experience.
- A valid medical (within 12 months).

Whether you’ve never made a boat dive or you’ve logged dozens, the PADI Boat Diver Specialty course can benefit almost every diver because different boats in different parts of the world do things differently.
Through the PADI Boat Diver Specialty course, you can learn the techniques and procedures for diving from different types of boats. The more boats you’re diving from, the more diving you’re doing.

The Cortez Club Deep Diver program is run over 4 dives, which are completed over at least two days.
The minimum depth for these dives is 18- 30 metres or 60 – 130 feet. All dives are conducted with an Instructor and within no-decompression limits.

The PADI Drift Diver Specialty course introduces you to the coolest magic carpet ride you’ll ever experience. This course shows you how to enjoy rivers and ocean currents by “going with the flow,” staying with your dive partner, communicating with the dive boat and knowing where you are the whole time.
Drift Diving is effortless and relaxing because you simply glide with the current and feel the rush of flying underwater. But, with this type of diving come special procedures that you need to know so you can maximize your fun underwater.

What will I do?
- During your PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty course, you’ll not only cover the background knowledge related to dry suit diving, you’ll get into confined water to put that theory into practice. Then, once you’ve mastered confined water, it’s time for two open water dives and applying that knowledge, including dive planning, organization, techniques, problems and buoyancy control.

Everyone is switching, enriched air is now permanent part of recreational diving. Not only does enriched air give you the opportunity to extend your dive times.
It is the entry-level qualification for diving rebreather and to all our technical programmes. To enter the program, you’ll need to be 15 or older, a PADI Open water or equivalent.
The Enriched air diver program emphasizes the theorectical and operational considerations involved with enriched air diving.
The enriched air course will familiarise you with the procedures, safety, protocols and hazards, risks, benefits and theory. Additionally your get go to on training dives during the program.
Here at the Cortez Club® we are very much encourage the use of enriched air. To promote the use of enriched air The Cortez Club® can offer the course during the completion of any other course and with no extra dives.

Then check into our equipment specialty program. You’ll need to be at least a PADI Scuba Diver and be 12 years old or older.
During your equipment specialty, you familiarise yourself with the operation and maintenance of your own personal equipment. Your instructor will review new or unfamiliar dive equipment.
The program is not designed to be an extensive equipment repair program, but it does provide the following:
- Theory, principles and operation of dive equipment.
- Routine and recommended care and maintenance procedures and equipment storage.
- Common problems with equipment and recommended professional maintenance procedures.
- Including demonstrations of repair procedures.
- Simple suggestions for comfortable equipment configurations and an introduction to new equipment.
There’s so much to see underwater that you’ll want to make the most of your stay. So, to maximize your underwater adventure, you should learn how to plan and carryout a multilevel dive.

- During your Multilevel Diver program, you’ll go on two open water dives, both of which may be conducted in one day. you’ll also be exposed to a variety of different types of multilevel dive calculators (the wheel and various types of dive computers).

- Definition and advantages of multilevel diving.
- Methods of calculating multilevel dives ( the wheel and / dive computers)

Neutral buoyancy is the key to conserving your air consumption and leaving minimal impact on the aquatic environment. Learn how to achieve neutral buoyancy with ease.

Long before Jacques Cousteau developed modern compressed air scuba gear that made recreational diving possible, people were diving with rebreathers.
At the Cortez Club® we offer training and rental of the Drager Dolphin/Atlantis Semi-Closed Rebreather.
The main feature of a rebreather is the reduced bubbles and silence it offers. The benefit of the of silence is that it allows you to get closer to shy wildlife. Perfect for the pelagic fish here in The Sea of Cortez.
Becoming more and more poplar everyday, rebreather are a big hit in the recreational diving market.
Try The Cortez Club’s Rebreather course, which introduces you to the Drager Semi-Closed rebreather and develops the knowledge and skills and the techniques necessary to use this system.
To qualify for the program you must be:
- PADI Open Water or Junior Open Water ( or equivalent)
- Certified as a PADI Enriched air Diver (or equivalent)
- At least 15 years old
The program reviews the planning, organisation, procedures, potential and hazards associated with semi-closed rebreather diving. It specifically focuses on The features, accessories, maintenance and proper use of the drager Semi-closed Rebreather. To complete this certification, you get to make at least one confined water dive and at least three open water dives.

No photo experience required! That’s what our program is for – showing you how to take award winning pictures underwater. Your need to be at least PADI Open Water or equivalent and at least 12 years old.
During the photo course you’ll go on two open water dives, which may be conducted in one day. This is where your put in to practise the tips and techniques you learned from your instructor and the PADI Underwater Photography manual and video.

Here in The Sea of Cortez we have a number of wrecks perfect for training. To venture in to our wreck diver program you’ll need to be at least a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent and at least 15.
During the Wreck Diver program you’ll go on four open water dives, which may be conducted over at least two days.
This is where you’ll put in the practise the information you gained from listening to your instructor and from the wreck diver manual and video.
Information contained in your program includes:
- The planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems and harzards of wreck diving.
- The preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines and reels.
- Limited-visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures.
